3 Tips For Preventing Scratches In Your Prescription Safety Glasses

scratches

Prescription safety glasses are an essential piece of safety equipment that should be well cared for.

Whether you are in a home, office, or factory setting, these glasses protect your eyes and their health by preventing debris and other foreign materials from harming your eyes.

And just as your safety glasses protect you, you must protect them from scratches.

Gently Remove Dust & Debris

Dust, dirt, and debris on your safety glasses should be removed by being gently blown and dusted off.

This is an especially important step before you clean your glasses because if debris is left on as they are cleaned, they can get scratched.

Use A Microfiber Cloth & Cleaning Spray To Avoid Scratches

Never use your shirt, tissues, rags, or paper towels to clean your safety glasses of smudges! Your shirt may be hiding dust or dirt on it and paper towels are too rough as they’re made from wood pulp. These materials are not meant for cleaning lenses and can leave micro scratches on your prescription safety glasses.

Instead, use a microfiber cloth and, ideally, a lens cleaning spray or pre-moistened lens wipe to clean your safety eyewear of any smudges.

Never use cleaning sprays not meant for glasses lens, such as window cleaners. These often contain chemicals such as ammonia that can cause the special coatings to peal and even deteriorate the impact resistance of the lens material itself!

Correctly Store Your Safety Glasses

High-quality prescription safety glasses are designed to withstand high impact but they should still be stored properly to ensure longevity and proper protection. All SafeVision prescription eyewear orders come with a case or pouch that we recommend storing them in.

It is NOT recommended to leave your prescription safety glasses in your vehicle, especially in extreme heat or cold. But, if you must, we highly advise they be kept in a case out of direct sunlight. All to often we have inquiries about warped frames and pealing lens coatings due to neglected glasses that have been left on a work truck dashboard under the sun. The over exposure to the combined UV and high heat can damage even safety glasses when left out for extended periods of time.

SafeVision has a wide variety of prescription safety glasses frames with a wide variety of high quality lens coatings.

If you find scratches on your safety glasses, please avoid trying “home remedies” like fillers, baking soda, or other pastes that polish or buff.

This will cause more damage to your glasses. Rather, contact the experts at SafeVision about lens replacement. Our team of experts is ready to help!
